SALES FLOOR OFFICER & MANAGER
Background:
Discoveries Edutainment World (DEW) is a bookstore offering retail, wholesale and distribution services and café services. The bookstore provides an enhanced in-store experience for customers, with an in-store café and WI-FI connectivity for internet services.
This is built upon the concept “grab a book while you sip”. The WI-FI zone provides access to our website for book reviews, featured books for the month and a database of all available books, movies, and music.
DEW streamlines its inventory and supply chain by developing relationships with reputable publishers and major distributors (national and international) of all genres of books, journals, magazines, music, movies, audio books, life style titles, greeting cards, and gift items. The strategic intent is to evolve into an edutainment franchise that fosters intellectually stimulating experiences.

Position Title: FLOOR MANAGER
Scope of Work
Responsible for the day to day operational functions of the store
Completes store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up work results.
Maintains store staff by providing support for orienting and training new employees
Maintains store staff job results by counselling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results of sales Officers.
achieves financial objectives by preparing, monitoring and reporting on annual budgets
identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers.
Ensuring availability of merchandise and services through close monitoring of stock levels.
Marketing merchandise by proactive innovative advertising and marketing
Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean environment
Contributes to team effort
Active sourcing of markets and business opportunities for DEW.
Day to day managing of DEW’s trade networks under the advice of Senior
Management.
Any other duties as may be required
Reporting
The Floor Manager will report on a day to day basis to the Executive Manager to ensure that the business is on track and proceeding according to plan.
Required Skills and Experience
excellent client relationship skills
Demonstrable Management proficiency
Very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrable ability to discover new and emerging markets and maximize existing markets is required
Prior experience in retail business is desirable
A good team player and also self-motivated
Must be result driven
A good market knowledge of the sales product
A Higher National Diploma (or higher) in any Humanities field is required.
2-3 years’ experience is desirable.
Position Title: SALES FLOOR OFFICER
Scope of Work
- Reports to the Floor Manager
- Greets customers when they enter the shop
- Involved in stock control and management
- Assisting shoppers to find the goods and products they are looking for
- Being responsible for processing cash and card payments
- Stocking shelves with merchandise
- Answering queries from customers
- Reporting discrepancies and problems to the Supervisor
- Giving advice and guidance on production selection to customers
- Proactive and suggestive selling of goods
- Balancing cash registers with receipts
- Dealing with customer refunds
- Keeping the store tidy and clean, this includes hovering and mopping
- Keeping a watch over goods to prevent theft and shop lifting
- Working within established guidelines
- Receiving and storing the delivery of large amounts of stock
- Keeping up to date with special promotions and putting up displays
- Any other duties as may be required
Reporting
The Sales Floor Officer will report on a day to day basis to the Floor Manager to ensure that the business and environment is running effectively without any challenges.
Required Skills and Experience
- An Ordinary Diploma in any Humanities field.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills.
- A good knowledge of the area of sale (Books & gift items)
- Should be articulate and have a smart appearance
- Ability to be a good team player
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Should be physically fit as they will be on their feet for most of the day and may be required to lift large amount of stock
- A good standard of written English and numeracy ability is desirable.
- Experience in usage of computers and software packages including other relevant machines in retail business.
Added Advantage
- A good ability to manage financial transactions
- Previous 1-2years’ experience in sales/marketing
