1. Head of Humanitarian Programme
The Humanitarian Manager provides support to all programmatic aspects of save the Children humanitarian response across the whole of save the Children’s Nigeria program and specifically to the Humanitarian Response that save the Children Nigeria is about to start to address the IDPs crisis in the North-Eastern State of Gombe.
2. Key Areas of Accountability
Among other responsibilities, the incumbent will:
Humanitarian Programming
• Engage with identified partners in Gombe State to establish joint planning and contracting, in line with SCI guidelines and procedures and monitor the delivery of SC Nigeria humanitarian response to the IDPs crisis in the areas of Psychosocial Support, Education in Emergencies and Child Protection
• Build and lead a strong and cohesive humanitarian team
3. Capacity Building
• Proactively identifies and documents capacity building needs related to humanitarian response, and helps to identify possible capacity building opportunities available
• Where possible, provide training on humanitarian response and related issues to field staff
• Oversee the delivery of agreed capacity building plans to develop the requisite humanitarian competencies in operational staff.
4. General
• Ensure documentation of key lessons learnt from humanitarian responses, best practice and case studies to shape in-country strategies and program approaches, and contributes to broader sector learning
• Pro-actively identify advocacy opportunities, case studies and research opportunities which link with wider organizational strategic objectives
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
MA/M.Sc. level in a relevant subject or equivalent field experience; previous experience of humanitarian programme management, preparedness and response in volatile contexts, Experience of managing multi-donor, multi-site programmes (including ECHO, DFID and OFDA):
DESIRABLE
Media experience; Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant sahel region/context; Hausa speaker
Desirable Experience and Characteristics
Post-graduate qualification in Social Sciences, or Public Health, or Nutrition or food Security related relevant discipline or a First degree with a minimum of 16 years experience in relevant field;
