Exciting Opportunities At Islamic Development Bank

OVERVIEW

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is a multilateral development bank (MDB) which funds its projects and other developmental activities using Islamic finance, hence the name “Islamic”. Funded in 1975, the IsDB is headquartered in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The purpose of theBank is to foster economic development and social progress of its member countries. The IsDB has 56 member countries, the majority of which are from geographical Africa. The remainder are in Asia, Europe and Latin America. The Bank now boasts of five autonomous entities in form of a “Group”. They are (i) Islamic Development Bank – IsDB (ii) Islamic Research and TrainingInstitute – IRTI: (iii) Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investmentand Export Credit – ICIEC (iv) Islamic Corporation for the Development ofthe Private Sector – ICD; and (v) International Islamic Trade and FinanceCorporation – ITFCIn its bid to nurture greater client centricity, the IsDB has establishedfour full-fledged Regional Offices in Rabat (Morocco), Kuala Lumpur(Malaysia), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Daker (Senegal). In addition, there areField Representatives in 15 member countries whose main responsibility isimplementation facilitation. The Bank is now in the process of openingCountry Gateway Offices (CGOs) in five major member countries namely;Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Egypt. The core functions ofCGOs may be summarized as strategizing, project preparation, implementationfacilitation and relations building. Turkey and Indonesia CGOs are fullyoperational, to be followed by Nigeria. The Country Gateway Office (CGO)for Nigeria is located in the 4th of Muktar El Yskub Place at Plot 1129along Zakari Maimalari Street, Abuja Central Business District.In order to fulfill its role and mandate, the Nigeria CGO wishes toadvertise the following local professional positions to the general public:

1. AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIST

Principal Responsibilities

A high caliber and results-oriented professional whose primary responsibilities would be to contribute to the IsDB’s policy operational activities in agriculture and rural development. Among others, this will be achieved through deep sectoral diagnostics; identification and development of sector priorities; conceptualization and implementation of agriculturalprojects and programs; networking and partnering with others (including non-state actors) and provision of knowledge products and advisory services.

Required Education & Experience

- Preferably Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics / PHD in Economics with a bias in Agriculture of Rural Development. B.Sc. holders with long practical experience may also be considered- Minimum of 5 years cognate experience in Agricultural an RuralDevelopment

- Advanced knowledge of agricultural and rural development and it's multidisciplinary nature

- Hands on experience in developing complex agricultural/ruraldevelopment projects and programs

- Ability to conduct analytical or diagnostic work on economic development issues within the IDB priority areas

2. HUMAN DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITY

A higher caliber, self-motivated and results-oriented professional whose primary responsibilities are to deliver the Bank’s Education and Health Sector Operators in Nigeria including identification, preparation,appraisal, implementation and supervision; and to contribute to Countrystrategic sector works, policy dialogue and visioning process in educationand health.

Required Education & Experience

- M.Sc./PhD in relevant discipline from a reputable Institution

- Professional qualification in Education, Health, Health Engineering ,Business Administration and any relevant discipline

- Minimum of 5 years cognate experience in social sectors (Education/HealthSystems) and broad knowledge of all aspects of international trends in education and health sectors gained through advanced academic study and/or special development

- Conversant with Global trends & Challenges in Human Development
Strong knowledge of French and Arabic Languages would be an added advantage
