Position Summary

Manages the major C&P strategy and activities within the Asset in the direction and business context set by the Asset Management Team.



Manages and directs a professional procurement team responsible for all asset procurement including exploration, drilling, development and business services.



Accountable for the integrity, performance and delivery of the C&P process in BG Nigeria. Responsible for high-grading C&P the C&P team and implementing an effective C&P process which ensures compliance with BG Group policies, standards and Business Principles, incorporating functional best-practice.



Builds strong relationships with Contract Owners, understands their requirements and increases asset understanding of the C&P role.



Negotiates with senior management of suppliers/contractors and builds productive and collaborative relationships with external stakeholders (regulators, other operators, industry bodies) at working level.



Ensures there is awareness within the Asset of market capacity and capability and that requirements are offered to the market in a time and manner that will maximise success and optimal value. Ensures the appropriate contractual relationships are in place which balance commercial value with risk and maximize cost recovery.



Implements the Group’s C&P strategy and roadmap for change in order to:

increase value-add through improved cost discipline and contractor/supplier management

ensure clear accountability for C&P governance (policies, standards, compliance and assurance)

reinforce C&P accountability across functional lines

improve Contractor Performance Management (CPM) and Contractor Relationship Management (CRM)

ensure full C&P participation in the business planning process

embed C&P minimum Standards (including Business Principles, local content and social responsibility) in all C&P activity

assure good C&P governance which implements clear C&P policies and standards in the Asset

high-grade C&P staff, in order to deliver projects in the business plan on time and within budget, to high quality and HSSE standards



Key Accountabilities

Delivers contracts per Asset plan. Accountable for C&P performance.

Creates and leads an integrated C&P function and ensures the necessary people, systems and processes are in place.



Promotes value-addition and competitive advantage through effective supply chain management and leverage of supplier knowledge and resources



Supports delivery of Asset HSSE targets through selection of high performing contractors. Leads culture change to raise the HSSE standards of contractors.



Promotes ethical conduct in the supply chain through due diligence and monitoring of Business Principles compliance. Manages interfaces with regulators and external stakeholders per BG policies and standards.



Drives the implementation of Nigerian Content Strategies in asset functions, in collaboration with NCD and appropriate external stakeholders.



Promotes effective performance management of contractors by Contract Owners, building effective relationships with major contractors and suppliers which capitalise on contractor knowledge and resources. Ensures appropriate performance monitoring and feedback mechanisms are in place.



Connects Asset to BGA C&P, implementing appropriate C&P initiatives. Provides direction for C&P systems and integration with associated IM systems under development.



Ensures C&P compliance with BG Standards, BG Business Principles and governmental requirements (including NAPIMS and NCD regulations), developing Asset C&P procedures appropriately.



Manages the Contracts Tender Board process. Ensures that the C&P process will always be defendable from internal and external audits including annual cost recovery audits conducted by NAPIMS.



Establishes development and succession plans for local national & expatriate staff. May be required to identify a local national successor to the C&P Manager post and a development plan for replacement.



Promotes standardistion and efficiency, in conjunction with BG Advance, through use of model contacts and templates which incorporate robust but fair contract terms, promote collaborative agreements, and facilitate successful project delivery.



Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute



Experience Needed

- Proven track record of delivery; acknowledged as having developed and managed a wide range of successful contracts in various environments.

- Proven C&P functional and management skills, with experience of working in an international environment and leading multi-cultural teams.

- Has led the implementation of complex contracting strategies and agreements which add value to the business.

- Proven track record of working with contractors and other stakeholders at senior management level to create a shared agenda.

- Ability to interact with and influence company presidents, vice-presidents, CEOs, Directors, senior managers, local government officials & agencies, and their staff.

- Broad knowledge of all types of contract forms available within the industry.

- Experienced in C&P for international E&P offshore drilling and projects.

- Comprehensive knowledge of exploration activities and well operations to be able to deal with functional managers as a peer.

- High level knowledge of contract law, contractual liability and risk management.

- Good working knowledge of Supply Chain methodology and practices.



Knowledge, Languages, Skills & Attributes



- Degree educated or equivalent with mastery in C&P for well operations.

- Full understanding of C&P tools and techniques and relevant regulatory / legislative requirements.

- Full understanding of HSSE requirements within C&P context.

- Highly developed quantitative and analytical ability. Versatile aptitude for problem solving and first class change management skills.

- Proven deal structurer with the ability to close complex high value agreements.

- Strong communicator and influencer, with the inter-personal skills, professional credibility and cultural sensitivity to represent the Group to a broad range of external audiences.

- Ability to recognise opportunities for knowledge transfer across different business scenarios.

- Effective networker, with the ability to develop and build constructive working relationships whilst maintaining objectivity and pragmatism.
