MRC Keneba is a 3 hour journey from the coast and the main Unit at MRC Fajara. The MRC has carried out nutritional research in Keneba and the surrounding villages for over 60 years. Although the location for the field station is remote and rural, considering its location, Keneba has world-class laboratory and other facilities necessary for high-quality field research and the delivery of a comprehensive primary health care service.
 
We are seeking to appoint a consultant clinician/head services to be responsible for managing the clinical services in Keneba, directly supervising all the clinical staff, and liaising with the clinical services at the MRC Fajara and the Regional Heath Teams. In addition, there may be opportunities to undertake research with a view to undertaking a further degree.
 
We seek someone with:
 
Ø  MB. BS
Ø  FWACP Part 2 or equivalent in internal Medicine/Paediatrics
Ø  Excellent of staff management
Ø  Record of publications in peer reviewed journals
Ø  Excellent written and spoken English
Ø  Good IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Access)
Ø  Commitment to working in a multi-disciplinary team
Ø  Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
Ø  A flexible and well-organized approach to work and an ability to meet deadlines
Ø  Ability to deal sensitively with patients
Ø  Attentiveness to detail
Ø  Excellent organizational skills
Ø  Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours
Ø  Practical experience of health research in developing countries
Ø  Willingness to live in a remote rural location
 
The salary will be paid in Grade 2 of MRC Unit, the Gambia's payscale at a net monthly salary pf 76, 474 Gambia Dalasi. This convert to a take home pay of approximately $1, 911 per month using the prevailing Dalas/USD exchange rate.
For displaced staff the package will include rent-free furnished accommodation, flights displacement allowance for spouse and children, contribution to sch0ol fees and shipment of personal effects.
 
The appointment will be for 3years in the first instance
