EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTOR
A national
non-profit, non-governmental organization is seeking qualified individuals to
fill the following positions in its office in the Niger Delta. The organization
is about to implement a community-owned power (electricity) project in a
targeted community in the Niger Delta. The project liaison office, where the
Field Officers will operate from, will be located within or around the targeted
community.
The project
is expected to last for 2 years and successful candidates for all positions
should be prepared to assume duties as soon as possible after the offer of
appointment.
(A) 1 PROJECT MANAGER
Under the direct supervision of the Managing Director, the project
Manager will be responsible for the management and coordination of all project
activities. The successful candidate will:

Be
responsible for the implementation of project activities and the day-to-day
management of the project office and personnel in line with agreed work plan
and budget.
·
Ensure
that the project produces the expected results, to the required standard of
quality and within the specific constraints of time and cost.
·
Maintain
effective communication with both the Representative of the external project
partners and the Managing Director, providing them with regular implementation
updates as may be required.
·
Have
overall responsibility for budget tracking and M & E of field activities in
line with agreed plans.
·
Coordinate
activities with stakeholders, particularly the community, project
consultants/contractors and relevant government agencies.
·
Support
the external project partners as they apply appropriate procedures that ensure
accountability, transparency, and competitiveness in the procurement and
contracting aspects of the project.
·
Ensure
strict adherence to the project’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
procedures.
Qualification and Experience:
· A first degree in Social sciences or
other related fields; a Master’s degree will be an advantage. A minimum of 10
years graduate work experience in relevant areas and not less than 5 years
previous experience in the design, implementation and management of development
projects. Experience in the Niger Delta is preferred. Proficiency in the
innovative use of MS office package and other related software packages, Must
be proactive, team-oriented with strong leadership/management skills, Must have
excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good oral and writing
skills, and must be ready to travel in the Niger Delta. Experience in managing
donor-funded projects (particularly EC and DFID) is required.
(B) 2 FIELD OFFICERS
Under the overall responsibility of the Managing Director, and the
direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Field Officers will be
responsible for the implementation and coordination of the activities of
different components of the project at the community level. The successful
candidate will:
· Support the Project Manager in
formulating strategies for achieving results for the different components as
outlined in Project Work plan.
· Implement and monitor relevant
component plans and activities following Project Implementation and M & E
plans in line with good practices that will ensure sustainability.
· Establish close working relationships
with all relevant stakeholders of the project especially the target community.
· Continuously engage with all
relevant stakeholders, particularly the community and relevant agencies and
regularly provide accurate information that will guide appropriate management
decisions towards the achievement of project objectives.
· Contribute to the adherence of all
HSE guidelines.
· Perform other duties assigned by the
Project Manager.
Qualifications and experience:
·
A
first degree in social sciences, or other related fields; plus extensive
experience working on multi-stakeholder project.
A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience with proven experience of
strong negotiation and relationship building skills, Proficiency in the
innovative use of MS office package, must be proactive, team-oriented with
strong analytical skills and ability to work independently and within a team,
must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good oral and
writing skills, must be ready to travel extensively in the Niger Delta.
Experience working with donor agencies will be an advantage but willingness to
operate from a community setting/office is essential.
