Job Title: Chief Mechanic
Department: Rig Operations

Job Summary:
Maintain and repair mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment onboard the rig.


Duties and Responsibilities:

EHSQ Management
Demonstrate commitment to Company safety policies through leadership and guidance.Authority I
Ensure regulatory requirements for environmental protection are complied with.Authority I
Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre job meetings as required.Authority I
Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisor and other department heads. Authority I
Assist in preparing Job Safety Analysis for hazardous situations. Authority II
Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig.Authority I
Assist in reviewing and updating the current safety case in consultation with rig and shore-based management.Authority III

People Development
Meets the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix Authority I
Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level.Authority II
Ensure that all subordinates have the necessary skills and experience to fulfil their assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.Authority I
Prepare annual performance appraisal for all subordinates. Recommend promotions or disciplinary action up to and including discharge.Authority I
Supervise and guide crew members in their On the Job Training (OJT) program.Authority I
Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures. Authority II
Operations/Maintenance:
Perform daily inspections and maintenance on mechanical equipment. Authority I
Organize and promote the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS). Authority I
Carry out periodic maintenance according to the PMS guidelines and coordinate same with supervisors and other department heads.Authority II
Maintain and repair power plants and monitor power distribution – ensure power is available at all times.Authority I
Operate, maintain and repair as necessary the engine cooling water system, lube oil system, and fuel system.Authority I
Troubleshoot and repair faulty mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic drilling equipment and tools. Authority II
Assist in maintaining marine equipment, i.e. cranes, thrusters, ballast pumps and valves, auxiliary equipment, et cetera.Authority II
Ensure the permit to work and isolation systems is followed. Authority I
Implement the follow up requirements to audits, as issued by Clients,
Regulatory Authorities or rig management.Authority II
Assist in ensuring that all third party equipment is fit for purpose,certified, correctly installed, and maintained while on the rig.Authority II
Maintain an adequate supply of spares in order to fulfil maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation.Authority I
Supply information to assist in the development of a maintenance and repair budget.Authority II
Ensure that service, maintenance and other operational reports are accurate and complete.Authority I
Liaise with the marine department regarding the loading, ordering and use Authority II

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.
Knowledge of technical calculations required for safe operation of the drilling unit and basic computer skills.

Definition of Decision Making Authority:
Authority I: To act.
Authority II: To act but inform supervisor and/or other interested parties.
Authority III: To obtain supervisor’s approval before acting.
